Walsall Writers' Hub was set up by Bloxwich writer, photographer and historian Stuart Williams as a means of helping to raise the profile of writers from, or connected with, Walsall Metropolitan Borough, an area which includes the towns and villages of Aldridge, Bloxwich, Brownhills, Darlaston, Great Barr, Pelsall, Rushall, Streetly, Walsall Wood, Walsall and Willenhall. The Borough, which is part of an historic region known as the 'Black Country', is located in the West Midlands of England.
The Walsall area has a long literary history; perhaps its most famous literary son is the celebrated Victorian/Edwardian comic writer, author and playwright Jerome K. Jerome whose 150th birthday is celebrated in 2009, but there have been hundreds of other local authors and writers at all levels from small press and journalism to international bestseller.
There are numerous local writers active in the area today, some who have websites and others who can only be contacted through their email or by post. The Hub will, it is hoped, encourage and assist local writers to become more visible on the Web, to the benefit of themselves, of publishers and of readers who would like to find out more about local authors and their work.
This 'umbrella' site provides a single location on the Web from where you can find the individual websites of writers with connections in the Walsall area who have asked us for a link. Where no website exists, writers can ask to have their email address linked from the Hub. The Hub also offers advice to Walsall writers, whether new or established, interested in setting up their own individual website using webs.com (formerly freewebs).
In addition, Walsall Writers' Hub aims to help support local writers via the internet by disseminating news and information about their work and activities.
If you are a writer born, living or working within the present Walsall Metropolitan Borough, you are welcome to join Walsall Writers' Hub, which will allow you to request a link and submit news for possible publication on the site. Hub membership is free of charge.
